Where does AI get the content?
OK this post will probably not endear me to a group of people. But do I care when they are stealing my hard-earned experience and years of work? Absolutely not!
Have you ever stopped to wonder where the AI gets its data and information from? Well, let me tell you, it steals it from others who are actually capable of thinking and synthesising learning. It then regurgitates into a paragraph or two. Consider that if it is simply cut and pasted and redistributed into the ether as a post or article, then it is there for the AI Bots to call upon again, but now as a ‘truth’. Bit of a Ponzi Scheme isn’t it!
This is the domain of the ‘uninformed Content Creators’ who are using generative AI tools to pass others thinking off as their own. They use AI to get the content and simply give it a voice and publish. Don’t get me wrong, there are many authentic Content Creators who are the real deal. You will know them when you see / read their work as they always reference when they refer to others thinking or intellectual property.
An Entrepreneur’s Superpower
OK straight to the point here… the ability to research is one of the main ‘superpowers’ of successful entrepreneurs. This is where generative AI Tools can be very useful. But the caveat here is that there must be some rails around the use of generative AI tools.
- Do they provide the source of their output?
- Do they disclose what will happen with the search that you just generated?
Ethical researchers will always reference others work and thinking, in particular where it was published in the public domain. They will provide comment and opinion about others work or maybe use it to support their hypothesis on something. But it is referenced! They would not simply pass it off as their own thinking. That would be stealing!
Is the Generative AI Honeymoon Over?
This is an interesting question, especially when the creators of the generative AI tools abdicate any responsibility of how their tools are used. But! we are seeing users being held to account now. As regulators and lawyers circle the pirated and misinformation being distributed, the next wave will be the owners of hard-earned intellectual property taking them on.
I was reading an interesting article on protecting your content from AI Bots… where you can ensure that AI Bots are excluded from using your content. As I learn more, I will report on this. Pirate content creators might have to actually synthesise and think about what they write!
With that said, as a professional researcher, I think that using these AI tools can be a great way to obtain points of view that I would not have considered. I can then go down a few rabbit holes to learn more, form my opinions, and of course reference any work so that I am not passing off facts or others thinking as my own.
So is the Generative AI honeymoon over? probably not… it just needs some ethical rails put around it.
